Haryana and Tomar Dynasty

  • There are different opinions among different historians in terms of origin of Tomar dynasty. According to Muphal historian Khadgaram, the ruler of Tomar dynasty was Somvanshi Kshatriya. In the inscription of 1631 AD, Tomar is considered a descendant of Somvanshi Kshatriya and Pandavas.
  • Through the Pehowa inscription, it is reported that the Tomar dynasty in Haryana was originated by a chieftain named Jaul. It is also known from this inscription that Jaul was not an independent ruler, but was born from the fifth generation of the Tomar ruler, Anangpala. It was Anangpala who laid the foundation of the Tomar kingdom, whose capital was Dhillika (Delhi).
  • It is known from historical sources that Jaul accepted the subordination of Pratiharas and made his currency popular. After Jaul, Aprichhdev, who is also known as Gog8 became the ruler of Tomar Dynasty.
